Now playing on LoungeTv Music. The Sex Pistols Live! January 14, 1978 - Winterland in San Francisco.

Written by Paul Stanford. (c) 2009.

On 14 January 1978,  The Sex Pistols played their last gig at the Winterland in San Francisco.  The band had reached its end with members not speaking to one another and Sid Vicious barely able to stand up, all that was needed was a memorable quote form front man Johnny Rotten, to close a chapter in music history.

Johnny RottenWhile staring at the crowd, a disinterested and disillusioned Rotten introduced the band's encore by saying, "You'll get one number and one number only 'cause I'm a lazy bastard." The encore was "No Fun", originally a Stooges song. As the song comes to a close, a sneering Rotten declared, "This is no fun, at all." After the performance Rotten addressed the audience directly—"Ever get the feeling you've been cheated? Good night"—before throwing down his microphone and walking offstage.

This is where we see a very high Sid Vicious crawl around on hands and knees, picking up change the crowd had been throwing at them throughout the show. A fitting end?

The Smiths Live At Rock Palast - 1984

Written by: Paul Stanford (C) 2009

Like most people my age, I never had the pleasure of seeing The Smiths live, so when I came across this concert footage I was excited to finally see this influential group perform live. The Smiths Live At Rock Palast doesn't rank up there with great performances in rock history but what it does do is showcase a band that should go down in rock history. Ismiths'84t amazes me that The Smiths have not been inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame especially considering some of the names that have been.My first impression of this concert was, Great I get to watch Morrissey parade around in a women's blouse for an hour... however, before the end of the first song (Hand In Glove) I'm completely into the show forgetting about Mozz.  For those of you who have no idea who The Smiths are/were (yes there are some people who have no idea about this band) this concert acts as a perfect introduction to this legendary band as you can get. Everything fits together with these guys.

steven morrisseyMorrissey's crooner style vocals mixed with the melodic and memorable guitar and bass of Johnny Marr and Andy Rourke, respectively, are complemented by Mike Joyce on drums, producing a unique and stylish sound unmatched during the 80's.The band plays flawlessly throughout the 16 song set list. Morrissey is in perfect form both vocally and emotionally and this never hurts... If you are a fan you will really enjoy this show. The sound quality is crystal clear and the video holds up well. So get out your sisters polka dot blouse and pull a few flowers to put in your back pocket... The Smiths live again!
